Overview

Clam is a fish pond resource and a useful crafting and tailoring ingredient. It is obtained as a shellfish item and is most often associated with the beach, where it fits thematically with other ocean goods. While it is not a high-value standalone fish pond output, it has several practical uses across the game.

In the Fish Pond, Clam can be placed to produce more Clams over time. A single Clam pond starts with a capacity of 3 and can be expanded to 10 by completing quests. The pond reproduces every 2 days, and its normal output includes Clam Roe, Seaweed, and assorted trash items, with better items becoming possible once the population reaches 5.

Fish Pond quests for Clam are straightforward and can be useful when you want to increase production:

The pond’s daily output changes with population. Clam Roe becomes more likely as the population rises, and higher populations also unlock the chance for more valuable items such as Coral, Sea Urchin, Beach Warp Totems, and Nautilus Shells. At lower populations, the pond produces a large amount of nothing, along with Seaweed, trash, and common debris items. At higher populations, the chance of Roe improves and the amount of empty days drops significantly.

Clam is also used in tailoring. It can be placed in the spool of the Sewing Machine to create the Sailor Shirt, and it can be used as a blue dye item at the dye pots in Emily and Haley's house on 2 Willow Lane. This makes it useful for players who want to unlock or recolor clothing.

Outside of the Fish Pond and tailoring, Clam is requested by some quests. Several ocean fish may ask for 2 Clams as part of a Fish Pond quest when increasing pond capacity from 5 to 7, and The Raccoon may request 5 Clams as part of its first request or later requests. It is also a useful item to keep in reserve because of these recurring demands.

Clam is not a flashy item, but it has steady utility. Keeping a few on hand is worthwhile if you use Fish Ponds regularly, craft clothing, or want to avoid being delayed by quest requests.
