Clay

Used in crafting and construction.
Overview
Clay is a resource item used in several crafting, tailoring, and quest-related recipes. It is most commonly obtained by tilling dirt, sand, or Artifact Spots, though it can also be found by mining Clay Nodes at the Ginger Island Dig Site, cracking open Geodes, or digging in the Mines. Clay may also be received as a gift from

Clay is required in a number of crafting recipes, including

A notable source of Clay is the Mines. Digging there is often more efficient than collecting it on the surface because the clay drop rate is higher, the area can be reset easily, and other items may also appear depending on the floor, including Cave Carrots and some Artifacts. Bombs or other explosives can speed up the process by clearing dirt more quickly.
Other ways to obtain Clay include:
- Tilling dirt, sand, or Artifact Spots
- Mining Clay Nodes at the Ginger Island Dig Site
- Opening Geodes
- Receiving it as a gift during the Feast of the Winter Star
- Buying it from Vincent’s shop at the Desert Festival for Calico Egg
- Getting it from a max-friendship dog gift
Because Clay appears in both early-game crafting and later-game systems, it remains useful throughout a playthrough. Players who want to stockpile it for farming and artisan infrastructure often find the Mines to be the most practical place to gather large amounts quickly.
