Overview

The Duck Egg is an animal product obtained from a Duck. Mature ducks that are fed every day produce one Duck Egg every 2 days, and eggs can be incubated to hatch another duck. Duck Eggs can also be found occasionally at the Traveling Cart, and one may be purchased at Stone's booth during the Feast of the Winter Star.

Like other eggs, Duck Eggs can be used in Cooking as a substitute for any other Egg. They can also be placed in a Mayonnaise Machine to make Duck Mayonnaise. In tailoring, a Duck Egg can be used in the spool of the Sewing Machine to create the dyeable Green Jacket Shirt, and it also works as a white dye ingredient when combined with a dyeable clothing item in the feed slot.

Duck Eggs have a few practical uses beyond crafting and processing:

  • They are accepted for bundle requirements that call for an egg, including any Egg bundle that does not specifically exclude them.
  • They may be requested in quests that require Eggs of any type, such as Gus' Famous Omelet, which asks for 24 Eggs.
  • Five Eggs of any type except Dinosaur Eggs may also be requested by the Raccoon during some of his requests.

Ducks themselves have a few quirks that affect how Duck Eggs are produced. A duck that is well cared for and has sufficient friendship and happiness may occasionally produce a Duck Feather instead of a Duck Egg. Ducklings make the same noises as adult ducks, follow fully grown ducks around the farm, and, if they are swimming on water such as the Farm Pond, Riverland Farm, or Beach Farm, they do not need hay or grass overnight. This makes ducks especially efficient in farm layouts with accessible water.

Duck Eggs are one of the animal products sold by ducks, and their products feed directly into the game's artisan system through mayonnaise production. Because they are also valid for many egg-based tasks, players often keep at least one on hand rather than selling every egg immediately. An incubator is the most reliable way to turn excess Duck Eggs back into more ducks, especially once a Big Coop or Deluxe Coop is available.
