Overview

The Slime Hutch is a farm building purchasable from Robin at the Carpenter’s Shop. It can house up to 20 slimes, and building one also unlocks the ability for slimes to occasionally drop Slime Eggs. Marlon visits after the hut is purchased and gives the player a Slime Egg to begin breeding.

Inside the hut are four water troughs that must be filled before slimes can produce Slime Balls. The troughs can be filled manually with a Watering Can or automatically with sprinklers placed within range. A slime hutch must contain at least 5 slimes before it can produce Slime Balls at all. Slime Balls also will not spawn on crafted flooring, which makes flooring useful for controlling where they appear.

Slimes in the hut are hostile to the player. The Slime Charmer Ring prevents damage and debuffs from them, making the building much safer to work with. Slimes in a Slime Hutch do not grant Combat XP and do not count toward Monster Eradication Goals. A Witch can also randomly appear and turn all slimes in a hutch into Black or Transparent Slimes, unless a Wicked Statue is placed inside to prevent the curse.

Slime Eggs can be hatched inside the Slime Hutch to create slimes. There are five kinds of Slime Eggs corresponding to green, blue, red, purple, and tiger slimes. Eggs can be obtained from slimes after a hut has been built, and they can also be created in a Slime Egg-Press by using 100 Slime. Of the press results, green eggs are much more common than the others, and Tiger Slime eggs cannot be produced this way. Slimes will continue to occasionally drop slime eggs even if the Slime Hutch has been demolished, but they will not start dropping them until a Slime Hutch has been built at least once.

Breeding is possible when a female slime and a male slime mate. If both show a heart, they produce a baby slime with the same HP as its parents and half their size. If one slime shows a heart and the other an exclamation mark, the latter refused the mating attempt. Baby slime color is determined from the parents’ color components using one of three random methods: the male parent’s component with random variation, the female parent’s component with random variation, or either the maximum or the average of both parents’ components for each color channel.

The hut’s interior is 16×8 tiles, with 6 tiles occupied inside and one additional tile blocked by the Slime Incubator at first, leaving plenty of usable space. Around 13×8 tiles remain available for other machines such as kegs or preserves jars while still allowing room for 20 slimes and the water troughs. The Slime Incubator can continue incubating eggs even when the hut is already full, though no warning is shown when an egg cannot hatch because there is no space.

  • Fences, statues, and other path blockers can be used to isolate the slimes and make the hut safer to enter.
  • Slimes do not need to physically reach the water source, so they can be enclosed anywhere inside the building.
  • Sprinklers inside the Slime Hutch work on any farm type, including the Beach Farm.
  • The flooring can be changed, and crafted flooring can be used to influence where Slime Balls spawn.
  • On standard save loading, slimes do not breed until the next morning and any previously filled troughs are emptied.
  • On mobile, loading a mid-day save empties the troughs early, preventing Slime Balls from spawning the next morning unless the troughs are refilled near the end of the day.
