Overview

Slime is a monster loot item obtained primarily from slimes and related enemies. It is a common crafting and quest material, and large quantities are often needed if the player wants to build slime-related machines or complete certain requests. Because of its many uses, it is one of the most routinely collected monster drops in the game.

Slime is used in several important recipes and interactions:

Slime is also a required ingredient for slime production and breeding systems. A Slime Incubator lets the player raise slimes in a Slime Hutch, and once a Slime Hutch has been built, certain slimes encountered in the world can also drop Slime Eggs. The resulting Slime Egg has a random color, with cheaper eggs appearing more often.

Since slimes are enemies, farming them efficiently is often the easiest way to stockpile the material. Slimes appear in The Mines, the Secret Woods, Skull Cavern, the Quarry Mine, the Volcano Dungeon, and, under the right conditions, on the Farm. Any slime killed in the world generally contributes to the Monster Eradication Goal, but slimes raised in a Slime Hutch do not count. Big Slimes and slimes produced by them are exceptions in some cases, so players who are specifically working toward the 1,000-slime goal should make sure they are defeating ordinary slimes. The Slime Charmer Ring is especially useful when farming them, since it prevents all damage from slimes.

A few practical notes make slime collection much easier:

  • Slimes can be farmed on the Farm if monster spawns are enabled, and Wilderness Farm naturally spawns some slimes based on Combat Level.
  • Slimes on the Farm give only 1/3 of their normal experience points.
  • The Slime Charmer Ring completely negates slime damage.
  • Hitting a slime knocks it back, so cornering it against a wall or in a tight space helps prevent charge attacks.
  • Slimes may drop different color-based loot depending on their color, so some variants are more rewarding than others.
