Largemouth Bass

The Largemouth Bass is a fish that can be caught in the Mountain Lake during all seasons. It makes up roughly 19% to 20% of catches there in Spring and Fall, and around 15% in Summer and Winter. It is most likely to be caught when casting farther from shore. It can also be caught on the Wilderness Farm, and with Magic Bait it can be caught at any time of day. Other sources include garbage cans, the Traveling Cart, a gift from a max-friendship cat, and a gift in the mail from Linus.

In practical use, the Largemouth Bass is more than just a common lake fish. It is needed for several quests, including Jodi’s “Fish Casserole” quest after reaching 4 hearts with her, certain Help Wanted requests from Demetrius or Willy, and Demetrius’s “Aquatic Overpopulation” Special Order. It is also used in tailoring to create the Fishing Vest and can be used as a green dye. In the Fish Pond, Largemouth Bass reproduce every 3 days, starting with a capacity of 3 fish and increasing up to 10 through three quests. The pond’s only possible produce is green Largemouth Bass Roe.

• The fish pond quest items are:
  • 10 Bug Meat, 2-3 Clay, 2-3 Green Algae, or 5 Slimes to raise capacity from 3 to 5
  • 2-3 Common Mushrooms, 1-2 Earth Crystals, or 1 Limestone to raise capacity from 5 to 7
  • 1 Mudstone, 1 Snail, or 5 Wild Bait to raise capacity from 7 to 10
• Largemouth Bass pond quests grant 35 Fishing XP each.
• The pond’s daily output is usually roe: at populations of 1-10, there is a 90% chance of producing an item and a 10% chance of producing nothing. The produced item grants 13 Fishing XP.
• In “Aquatic Overpopulation,” Demetrius requests 10 Largemouth Bass in Spring and rewards the player with gold equal to the fish’s sale value plus the Farm Computer recipe.
• Two Largemouth Bass may also be requested in a Fish Pond quest by Dorado, Lingcod, or Pike to increase a pond’s capacity from 5 to 7.
• One Largemouth Bass may be requested on the Help Wanted board as an item delivery quest, and 1-4 may be requested for fishing jobs; in the latter case, the fish are kept after completion.

Because it can be caught year-round in a single reliable location, the Mountain Lake is the simplest source for players who need one for quests, tailoring, or pond setup.
