Crimsonfish

The Crimsonfish is a fish that can be caught in the ocean at The Beach during Summer. It is one of the five Legendary Fish, so it can normally be caught only once per save file, or once per player in multiplayer. It appears around the eastern pier, and catching one requires meeting several special conditions before the game will even allow a hook.

To catch a Crimsonfish, the player must have at least Fishing level 5, whether from natural skill or Fishing buffs. The bobber must land in water that is at least three tiles away from land in every direction, including the pier; if the bobber lands in Bubbles, the fish can appear one tile closer to land. The player must also be standing at the far east end of the beach, which is accessible after repairing the small bridge for 300 wood or after purchasing the second community upgrade. When all requirements are met, each cast has an 18% chance to hook a Crimsonfish, or 25% when using a Curiosity Lure.

Although a caught Crimsonfish cannot normally be hooked again, Challenge Bait can be used to obtain multiple Crimsonfish per player. Magic Bait also allows it to be caught regardless of season, letting players fish for it outside Summer.

Crimsonfish has a few practical uses:

• It is not used in any bundles.
• It is not used in any quests.
• It can be used as a red dye item at the dye pots in Emily's and Haley's house, 2 Willow Lane.
• It can be placed in a Fish Pond, but the pond capacity is fixed at 1 fish and cannot be increased. The only possible output is Crimsonfish Roe.

In a Fish Pond, the population-based production is simple: at population 1, the pond produces either Crimsonfish Roe or nothing. The only item produced is Crimsonfish Roe, with an 84% chance of producing 1 item and a 16% chance of producing nothing, giving an overall daily chance of 42% for the roe outcome and 58% for no output.
