Glacierfish

The Glacierfish is a fish that can be caught in Cindersap Forest during Winter, off the southern tip of Arrowhead Island. It is one of the five Legendary Fish, so it can only be caught once per save file, or once per player in multiplayer.

Hooking a Glacierfish requires a few exact conditions to be met at the same time. The player must have at least Fishing level 6, either naturally or through fishing buffs, and must stand on the single valid tile at the southernmost tip of Arrowhead Island. The bobber must also land in water that is at least three tiles away from land in every direction. If the bobber lands in Bubbles, the fish can appear one tile closer to land than usual. When these conditions are satisfied, each cast has a 50% chance to hook a Glacierfish. Unlike other Legendary Fish, a Curiosity Lure does not increase this chance.

Once caught, a Glacierfish cannot be hooked again in the normal way, but it is still possible to obtain additional Glacierfish per player by using Challenge Bait to catch it or by panning on the correct tiles with the Fisher enchantment. Magic Bait also allows it to be caught regardless of season, which makes Winter unnecessary when using that bait.

Glacierfish has a few other uses outside of fishing:

• It is not used in any bundles.
• It is not used in any quests.
• It can be used in dyeing as a blue dye at the dye pots in Emily and Haley’s house.
• It can be placed in a Fish Pond, but the pond capacity is fixed at 1 fish and cannot be increased.
• A Glacierfish Pond produces only Glacierfish Roe.

In a Fish Pond, the only possible output is Glacierfish Roe, and the pond’s daily production chance is based on a population of 1 fish. This makes the pond a very limited use for the fish compared with more flexible pond species, but it is still a valid way to turn a caught Glacierfish into roe.
