The Spook Fish is a fish that can be caught during the Night Market’s submarine ride at The Beach from Winter 15–17. It is one of the Night Market’s special catches, and it can also be obtained outside the festival by fishing on the Beach with Magic Bait. When using Magic Bait, the fish can be caught regardless of time of day or season, as long as the cast is made west from the left-most pier in the southwest corner of the beach.
In the submarine ride, the Spook Fish has a 16% chance to bite, or 18% with a Curiosity Lure. With Magic Bait in the southwest beach area, the base chance is 3.3%, rising to 10.2% with a Curiosity Lure. Because the submarine pond limits how far a fish can be from land, the Spook Fish can only be caught at its maximum size of 26 inches when fishing from the Beach with Magic Bait.
Spook Fish can be placed in a Fish Pond, where they reproduce every 4 days. The pond starts with a capacity of 3 fish and can be expanded to 10 by completing three pond quests. Its main product is blue Spook Fish Roe, and once the population reaches 9, Treasure Chests can also be produced.
The pond quest items are:
To expand from 3 to 5: 3 Amethysts, 3 Coral, 3 Iron Bars, 1 Oyster, 3 Red Mushrooms, or 3 Refined Quartz
To expand from 5 to 7: 1 Dried Starfish, 2 Emeralds, 1 Granite, 2–3 Omni Geodes, or 2–3 Purple Mushrooms
A Spook Fish in a Fish Pond produces items at a high rate once the pond is populated. At populations of 1–8, it always produces Roe, while at populations of 9–10 it still produces Roe nearly all the time, with a small chance for Treasure Chests and a small chance of producing nothing.
Spook Fish can also be used in the Sewing Machine and as a blue dye ingredient at the dye pots in Emily and Haley’s house.
