Dorado

Overview
The Dorado is a fish that can be caught in the forest river during Summer. It is also one of the fish that a pet cat with max friendship can gift to the player. With Magic Bait, it can be caught regardless of season or time of day, making it available outside its normal Summer window.
Its usual location is the forest river, and it can be targeted there when fishing in the correct season. Because Magic Bait ignores the normal seasonal and time restrictions, it is the most flexible way to obtain Dorado if the player wants to stock up for crafting, fish ponds, or quests without waiting for Summer.
Dorado has several practical uses:
- It can be placed in a
Fish Pond, where it reproduces every 3 days.
- A Fish Pond starts with a capacity of 3 fish and can be expanded to 10 by completing three pond quests.
- The pond’s main output is orange Dorado Roe.
- Once the pond population reaches 9,
Bug Meat can also appear as a possible output.
- In the
Sewing Machine, Dorado can be used in the spool to create the dyeable Fish Shirt.
- It can also be used as orange dye at the dye pots in
Emily and
Haley’s house.
- During the Special Order Aquatic Overpopulation,
Demetrius may request 10 Dorado caught in Summer. Completing it rewards gold equivalent to selling the fish and the
Farm Computer recipe.
For fish pond management, Dorado is fairly straightforward. Its pond quest line asks for common midgame fish at each expansion step, and each quest grants 35 Fishing XP. Once the pond is full, the roe output is consistent enough to make it a reliable passive source of income, while the occasional Bug Meat drop at higher population adds a small extra benefit. If a player is already maintaining fish ponds for crafting or profit, Dorado is a reasonable choice when orange roe or dye material is useful.
Because the fish is tied to the forest river and Summer under normal conditions, it is easy to overlook outside that season.
