Blue Discus

Blue Discus is a fish that can be caught in the freshwater areas of Ginger Island North and West during any season. Like other island fish, it is tied to Ginger Island rather than the main valley, and it is most notable for its use in a few island-related crafts, quests, and fish pond production.

The Island Trader sells 1 Oceanic Rug for 3 Blue Discus on Saturdays. Blue Discus can also be requested for Willy’s Tropical Fish special order on the Special Orders board outside the Mayor’s Manor, where the task asks for 5 Blue Discus after Ginger Island has been unlocked.

Blue Discus has a few practical uses outside of selling:

• It can be placed in a Fish Pond, where it reproduces every 3 days.
• A fish pond starts with a capacity of 3 fish and can be expanded to 10 by completing two quests.
• The pond’s main product is blue Blue Discus Roe.
• Once the population reaches 4 or higher, the pond can also produce more valuable items, including Banana and Golden Coconut.

The fish pond quest requirements are:

• Increase pond capacity from 3 to 5 by bringing 3 Taro Root.
• Increase pond capacity from 5 to 10 by bringing 10 Taro Root.

Blue Discus also has tailoring and dyeing uses. It can be used in the Sewing Machine spool to create the dyeable Sailor Shirt, and it can serve as a blue dye in the dye pots at Emily’s and Haley’s house at 2 Willow Lane.

In a fish pond, Blue Discus primarily produces roe, with the exact output depending on population:

• Population 1–3: Blue Discus Roe is the only output.
• Population 4–6: Blue Discus Roe is still the main output, with a small chance of Banana.
• Population 7–8: Roe remains dominant, with a higher chance of Banana.
• Population 9–10: Roe is still the main result, and Banana or Golden Coconut can also appear.

Blue Discus is therefore one of the more useful Ginger Island fish, since it combines standard fish value with pond reproduction, dyeing utility, and a direct trade use at the Island Trader.
