Midnight Carp

Midnight Carp is a fish that can be caught in the mountain lake, the Cindersap Forest pond, and the freshwater areas of Ginger Island North and West. It is available during Fall and Winter late at night, but Magic Bait allows it to be caught in any season and at any time of day. It can also appear in Garbage Cans during Fall or Winter, be sold by the Traveling Cart, or be gifted by a cat with maximum friendship.

It is not used in any bundles, but it has several other uses. Midnight Carp can be placed in a Fish Pond, where it reproduces every 2 days. The pond starts with a capacity of 3 fish and can be expanded to 10 by completing two quests. Its main product is violet Midnight Carp Roe, and once the population reaches 7, River Jelly can also be produced.

• Pond quests:
  • Increase capacity from 3 to 5 by bringing 10 Coal.
  • Increase capacity from 5 to 10 by bringing 1 River Jelly.
• Fish Pond output:
  • Populations 1–6 primarily produce Roe.
  • Populations 7–10 can also produce River Jelly, though much less often.
  • When nothing else is produced, the pond may yield no item instead.

Midnight Carp is also useful for tailoring and dyeing. It can be placed in the Sewing Machine spool to create the Fishing Vest. At dye pots, it acts as a purple dye, and when used in the Sewing Machine with a dyeable clothing item in the feed, it serves as an iridium dye.

It can be requested in quests as well. During Fall or Winter, one may be randomly requested for a Help Wanted board item delivery quest outside Stone's General Store, rewarding gold and 150 Friendship points. It may also be requested by Demetrius for the Special Order Aquatic Overpopulation, which asks for 10 Midnight Carp to be caught in Fall and rewards gold equivalent to selling the fish plus the Farm Computer recipe.
