Blobfish

Blobfish is a fish that can be caught in the submarine ride at the Night Market during Winter 15–17. It is also one of the possible catches when fishing on the Beach with Magic Bait, and this method is the only way to catch it at its maximum size of 26 inches, since the Submarine pond’s limited tile spacing keeps the fish from reaching that size there.

Blobfish has a few practical uses outside of selling it directly. It can be placed in a Fish Pond, where it reproduces every 4 days. The pond starts with a capacity of 1 fish and can be expanded to 10 by completing four quests. Its main pond product is beige Blobfish Roe, though rarer items become available once the population reaches 9.

• Pond capacity upgrades require these quest items:
  • From 1 to 3: 3 Coral, 2 Frozen Tears, or 2 Sea Urchins
  • From 3 to 5: 5 Coffee Beans, 1 Mayonnaise, or 1 Pizza
  • From 5 to 7: 1 Cookie, 1 Green Tea, or 1 Wine
  • From 7 to 10: 1 Rainbow Shell or 1 Rice Pudding
• Each quest grants 40 Fishing XP.

The pond’s output table is notable for how its rewards improve with population. At lower populations, Blobfish Roe is the dominant result, while higher populations unlock the chance for more valuable items. At population 9–10, the pond can also produce a Pearl or a Warp Totem: Farm, each with a small chance. The pond may still produce nothing, but that becomes less likely as the population rises.

Blobfish is also used in tailoring and dyeing. It serves as a yellow dye item in the dye pots at Emily and Haley’s house, 2 Willow Lane, and it can be used at the Sewing Machine to create the Blobfish Mask. The fish therefore has value both as a collection target and as a crafting ingredient, especially for players who want cosmetic items or who are working on pond production.

Because it is tied to the Night Market’s submarine ride, Blobfish is a seasonal catch with a limited window each winter. Players aiming to use it for the Fish Pond or tailoring should plan around that event, or rely on the Beach and Magic Bait for its largest possible catch size.
