Rainbow Shell

The Rainbow Shell is a forage item found on The Beach during Summer. It can also appear on the Beach Farm in any season, and it may be found in The Mines after activating the Shrine of Challenge or while the Danger In The Deep quest is active. In addition, it can be obtained as a gift from Demetrius by mail, from Jas, Vincent, or Leo during the Feast of the Winter Star, from a pet turtle with maximum friendship, or as a rare daily output from a Rainbow Trout Fish Pond once the pond reaches population 9.

Rainbow Shell can also show up at the Traveling Cart, though its availability there is random. A simple exploit exists for players who want to reroll for one from Demetrius’s mail gift: wait for the delivery, then reload the game until the gift contains a Rainbow Shell.

It has a few specific uses, but is otherwise fairly narrow in purpose:

• It is used in The Mysterious Qi quest.
• A Blobfish Fish Pond may request one in a pond quest, which increases the pond’s capacity from 7 to 10.
• It is used in the Sewing Machine spool to craft the dyeable Bikini Top.
• When used as a dyeing ingredient at the Sewing Machine, it opens the color selection menu and can be used to choose any color with the slider buttons.

Rainbow Shell is not used in any Bundles and is not used in any recipes.
