A crystal fabled to be the frozen tears of a yeti.

Overview

The Frozen Tear is a mineral with a distinctive blue crystal appearance and a sell price of 75g. It can be found in several places throughout the game, most commonly by foraging in The Mines between floors 40 and 79, though this range is reduced to floors 71–79 when the Dangerous Mines are active. It also appears from Dust Sprites, in certain geodes and treasure chests, and through a number of other special sources.

Frozen Tears can be obtained by:

  • Foraging in The Mines between floors 40 and 79, or floors 71–79 with Dangerous Mines active
  • Slaying Dust Sprites in The Mines
  • Breaking containers in The Mines after reaching the bottom
  • Panning
  • Opening Frozen Geodes and Omni Geodes
  • Finding Fishing Treasure Chests
  • Checking Garbage Cans after reaching the bottom of The Mines
  • Receiving them from an Ice Pip Fish Pond when the pond population reaches 9
  • Mail from the Wizard, if friendship is above 0
  • The Statue Of Endless Fortune on Winter 10, Sebastian’s birthday
  • Occasional sale at the Feast of the Winter Star
  • Foraging in the Skull Cavern

It can also be destroyed by bombs.

Frozen Tear is useful in several game systems beyond selling. In the Sewing Machine, it is used with Cloth to create a clothing item, and it also acts as a cyan dye when placed in the dye slot with dyeable clothing. At Emily and Haley’s house, it can be placed in the blue dye pot for dyeing.

Frozen Tear may also be requested in quests. It can appear randomly on the Help Wanted board outside Stone’s General Store during any season, and it may be requested by fish pond quests:

  • 2 Frozen Tears for Blobfish to raise pond capacity from 1 to 3
  • 5 Frozen Tears for Ice Pip to raise pond capacity from 3 to 5

Because it has multiple acquisition methods, Frozen Tear is one of the more flexible minerals to stockpile. Players who mine regularly will often pick up enough for tailoring and quest use without needing to rely on a single source, while fish ponds and geodes provide additional ways to collect it passively.
