Fossilized Skull

The Fossilized Skull is a bone item obtained from Golden Coconuts. The first Golden Coconut always yields a Golden Walnut, and every later Coconut has a 14% chance to produce a Fossilized Skull instead. Because of this, it is one of the island materials that can appear while cracking open Coconuts on Ginger Island.

It has several practical uses once obtained. The Fossilized Skull can be donated to the Island Field Office as part of the Large Animal display, which rewards 6 Golden Walnuts and a Banana Sapling when completed. It can also be processed in the Bone Mill to produce one of four fertilizers: Quality Fertilizer, Speed-Gro, Deluxe Speed-Gro, or Tree Fertilizer.

The item is also useful in crafting and tailoring. In the Sewing Machine, Fossilized Skull is used in the spool to create the Skeleton Shirt. It can additionally be used as a yellow dye ingredient at the dye pots in Emily and Haley’s house at 2 Willow Lane.

For questing, Fossilized Skull counts as a bone item for the Special Orders board request “Fragments of the past,” which asks for 100 of any combination of bone items collected while the quest is active. Since the quest accepts any mix of bone items, Fossilized Skull can be saved for that purpose if you are stocking up on island resources.

In practice, Fossilized Skull is most valuable as a flexible surplus item: it contributes to museum-style island completion, can be converted into useful farming supplies, and has both tailoring and dye applications. If you are opening Golden Coconuts regularly, it is worth keeping a few on hand rather than selling them immediately.
