A seed of the coconut palm. It has many culinary uses.

Overview

The Coconut is an inedible foraged fruit found in the Calico Desert and by shaking palm trees on Ginger Island. It can also be bought at the Oasis on Mondays, appear in the Traveling Cart’s stock, be found in Garbage Cans after unlocking the Desert, or be sent by Sandy in the mail. The Statue Of Endless Fortune produces one Coconut per year on Linus’ birthday, Winter 3.

Although it cannot be eaten, the Coconut has several useful applications. It can be processed in a Preserves Jar to make Coconut Jelly, or in a Keg to make Coconut Wine. It is also used in tailoring: placing a Coconut in the Sewing Machine with Cloth produces a clothing item, and placing it with a dyeable clothing item makes it a dark brown dye. It can also be placed in the orange dye pot at Emily and Haley’s house.

Coconuts are also important for island and desert progression. The Island Trader will exchange 1 Golden Coconut for 10 Coconuts, but only after the player has already found and cracked open at least one Golden Coconut. They are also used to construct the Desert Obelisk purchased from the Wizard’s Tower.

  • Gus requests a Coconut by mail on Winter 19 of Year 2 in the “Exotic Spirits” quest.
  • Coconut may be requested on the Help Wanted board after completing the Vault Bundles.
  • Three Coconuts may be requested in a Fish Pond quest for Sandfish or Scorpion Carp to raise the pond’s capacity from 3 to 5.

A few details are worth noting. The player must reach Foraging level 1 before Coconuts will drop from palm trees, whether shaken loose or chopped down. As a foraged item, a Coconut normally does not receive the Tiller profession’s +10% sell price bonus, but Coconuts obtained as gifts or purchases do receive it. If such bonus-eligible Coconuts are stacked with normal ones, the entire stack gets the bonus price. Botanically, the Coconut is classified as a drupe, or stone fruit.
