Gus

Gus is a villager who lives and works at the Stardrop Saloon in Pelican Town, which he also owns. He is one of the town’s most social residents and is frequently found behind the bar, in his room, or occasionally visiting other places when his schedule changes.

By default, Gus spends the morning in his room, cleans glasses behind the bar at noon, and tends the bar in the evening before going to bed at midnight. Rainy days keep him in the saloon longer, while Monday takes him to Pierre’s General Store in the morning and Tuesday sends him to the Community Center kitchen if the Community Center has been restored. On Fall 4, he visits the clinic for a checkup, and if the player has seen Alex’s 14-heart event, his Sunday schedule changes as well. After the Beach Resort on Ginger Island is unlocked, Gus may randomly spend a day there; he still leaves a cash box on the bar, so purchases remain available. He does not go to the Resort on festival days or on his clinic checkup day. If the Desert Festival is available and he is assigned as a vendor, that schedule overrides his usual routine.

Gus employs Emily part-time to help at the saloon, and Pam is a frequent customer who can often be seen talking with him. He also sends mail gifts once friendship is above zero, with the chance increasing as friendship rises. At 3 hearts, he sends the Salmon Dinner recipe, and at 7 hearts he sends the Cranberry Sauce recipe.

Gus’s loved gifts are Diamond, Snail, Fish Taco, Orange, Tropical Curry, and Stardrop Tea. He likes any cooked dish except Coleslaw, along with Daffodil and Truffle. His neutral gifts include Bread and Fried Egg, plus most eggs, fruit, milk, and several forage items such as Chanterelle, Common Mushroom, Dandelion, Ginger, Hazelnut, Leek, Magma Cap, Morel, Purple Mushroom, Snow Yam, and Winter Root. He dislikes Salmonberry and Wild Horseradish, and he hates Coleslaw, Holly, and Quartz.

A few quest and request interactions are tied to Gus as well:

• He may send letters asking for Lobster, Albacore, or Coconut, with rewards and friendship gains after completion.
• He can also randomly request an item through the Help Wanted board outside Pierre’s General Store.
• In The Pirate’s Wife quest, he is the one who must receive the Gourmet Tomato Salt.
• For the special order “Gus’ Famous Omelet,” he may ask the player to deliver 24 Eggs to the saloon fridge, rewarding a Mini-Fridge.

At the movies, Gus loves The Miracle At Coldstar Ranch and Wumbus, likes several other films including It Howls In The Rain and The Zuzu City Express, and dislikes Mysterium. His concession preferences are similarly friendly to rich, savory foods: he loves Cappuccino Mousse Cake, Panzanella Salad, Stardrop Sorbet, and Truffle Popcorn, while liking items such as Fries, Nachos, Personal Pizza, Popcorn, Salmon Burger, Salted Peanuts, and Star Cookie.
