Kent

Kent is a villager who lives in Pelican Town with his wife, Jodi, and their two sons, Sam and Vincent. He is away serving in the army during the first year and returns to town in spring of year two. Before he comes back, he is only referenced through other characters and a few household details, such as dialogue from Sam and Vincent and the contents of the drawer in Jodi’s bedroom.

Kent’s regular routine keeps him close to home for much of the week. On rainy days he stays mostly inside his house, while on Fridays and Saturdays he spends the day near the sewer entrance and later visits the Stardrop Saloon. On Sundays he goes to Pierre’s General Store, often spending time in the altar room before heading home. On Ginger Island, after the Beach Resort is unlocked, Kent may occasionally spend the day there, though he never visits the Resort on festival days. If he leaves the island at 6:00 PM, he goes straight home to bed.

Kent is married to Jodi, and their family life is a recurring part of his dialogue and events. He also has a number of heart-event and festival lines, including special dialogue for the Desert Festival, the Flower Dance, the Egg Festival, and other seasonal events. His background in the war is reflected in his personality and reactions, and his fatigue is tied to difficulty sleeping.

Kent can send gifts by mail once friendship points are above zero, with the chance increasing as friendship grows. He also mails recipes at higher friendship levels:

• At 3 hearts, he sends the recipe for Crispy Bass.
• At 7 hearts, he sends the recipe for Super Meal.
• He may also send a generic gift by mail at any friendship level above zero.

Kent’s universal likes and dislikes follow a fairly standard pattern, but he has some notable exceptions. He loves Stardrop Tea, Fiddlehead Risotto, and Roasted Hazelnuts. He likes most universal likes, except Algae Soup, Piña Colada, Sashimi, and Tortilla, as well as all eggs except Void Egg and all fruit. He also likes Daffodil and Dwarvish Safety Manual. His neutral items include many common forageables, such as Chanterelle, Common Mushroom, Dandelion, Ginger, Hazelnut, Leek, Magma Cap, Morel, Purple Mushroom, Wild Horseradish, and Winter Root. He dislikes all universal dislikes, plus Piña Colada, Quartz, and Snow Yam. He hates all universal hates, all milk, Algae Soup, Holly, Sashimi, and Tortilla.

At the Movie Theater, Kent loves Popcorn and Stardrop Sorbet, likes most movies except It Howls In The Rain and Mysterium, and dislikes black licorice, cotton candy, jawbreakers, Joja Cola, JojaCorn, rock candy, and Sour Slimes. For concessions, everything else is liked. One notable quirk is that although he dislikes the sound of popcorn being made, he still loves Popcorn as a concession item.

Kent is involved in several quests. In year 2, he sends a letter on Summer 15 for A Soldier’s Star, requesting a Starfruit. He may also randomly request an item on the Help Wanted board outside Pierre’s General Store, rewarding the player with three times the item’s base value and 150 friendship points. In The Pirate’s Wife, he is the one who receives the War Memento.
