Movie Theater

Pelican Town

Overview

The Movie Theater is a building that allows players to watch movies alone or with a guest once per week. It becomes available after either completing the Community Center or finishing all community upgrades offered by Morris. If the Community Center route is chosen, the abandoned JojaMart is struck by lightning after restoration, the Missing Bundle becomes available, and the Junimos build the theater the night after that bundle is completed. If the Joja route is chosen, Morris sells the Movie Theater after all other community upgrades are finished, and the Joja Warehouse becomes the theater.

Entering requires a Movie Ticket, which must be purchased for admission. A second ticket can be bought and gifted to a villager to invite them to the same showing, but the player must enter the theater on the same day or the invitation is lost. In multiplayer, several players can watch together if they gather in the lobby before the film begins, though the game still displays the usual solo-going message when entering.

There are 8 movies total, and they rotate on a 2-year cycle based on the season in which the theater was first unlocked. The “year 1” films repeat first, followed by the “year 2” films, then the cycle repeats. Inviting a guest to a loved movie gives 200 friendship points, a liked movie gives 100, and a disliked movie gives none. Penny is a special case: she loves any movie if Pam is present, but this can only happen in multiplayer, since Pam will not attend when Penny is invited.

The lobby also contains a concessions counter where the player can buy a snack for their guest. A loved snack gives 50 friendship points, a liked snack gives 25, and a disliked snack gives none. Only five snack choices are offered at a time, with the game trying to include one loved snack, two liked snacks, and one disliked snack if possible. If the theater was built from the Joja Warehouse, JojaCorn is always available.

  • The Crane Game machine is on the left side of the lobby. It costs money to play and can award up to 3 prizes per game.
  • The machine is unavailable on the player’s first visit. Afterward, there is a 25% chance it is occupied before the movie.
  • It must be played before the movie starts; after the film ends, it is always occupied.
  • Prize positions are randomized each game, and rare prizes such as the Dinosaur Egg and Movie Ticket can appear.
  • The player has 3 chances per game, with a 15-second timer for each attempt starting when the crane first moves.

A few extra details affect access and attendance. Krobus does not attend movies on Fridays, the weekly movie cooldown resets on Mondays, and the cooldown is not consumed if the player enters and leaves without watching. Movie tickets can be bought on festival days, but the theater itself cannot be entered then. The theater also cannot be entered while closed by using the Key To The Town. Leo cannot be invited until reaching 6 hearts.
