Overview

The Mountain is an exterior region in the northern part of Stardew Valley. It begins with only two exits: south to Pelican Town and west to the Backwoods. As the game progresses, several events and upgrades open additional routes and facilities in the area. On Spring 5, debris blocking the bridge north of the lake is cleared, granting access to the Mines and the Adventurer's Guild. On Summer 3, an earthquake opens the pass north of the Mountain to the Railroad. The broken bridge at the east end of the map can be repaired by completing all Crafts Room Bundles or by purchasing Bridge from the Joja Community Development Form, unlocking the Quarry. The Glittering Boulder west of the mine entrance can be removed by completing all Fish Tank Bundles or by purchasing Panning from the Joja Community Development Form. After completing the Community Center or purchasing the JojaMart membership, a Community Upgrade can also be bought, which upgrades the trailer and opens hidden passages, including one south of the Adventurer's Guild that leads to the river waterfall north of JojaMart.

Several notable locations and residents are found here. Robin's Carpenter's Shop is located to the west, with Demetrius, Maru, and Sebastian living in the attached house. Linus lives in a tent northeast of the shop. The Treehouse sits in a large tree east of the Railroad entrance and west of Linus' tent, and it becomes available after reaching 6 hearts with Leo. Farther north of the lake are the Mines and, beyond them, the Adventurer's Guild, where Marlon and Gil reside. The Quarry lies beyond the repaired bridge, and its entrance to the Quarry Mine is also located there.

The Mountain is also a useful place for gathering resources. Forageable items spawn on the ground here seasonally, with an average spawn rate of 0.5 per night. Some spawn points are less likely to produce items when the original trees are present, since those spots are treated as being behind the trees. Artifact Spots also appear throughout the area, with an average spawn rate of 0.4 per night, rising to 0.9 per night in winter. Digging these up can yield a variety of artifacts and other items, with some results changing by season and a small chance for a rare unseen item when the player has the Magnifying Glass.

The Mountain Lake in the center of the map is also a major fishing spot. It contains many different fish, and Carp are especially easy to catch there, making it a strong early-game location for practicing fishing. It is also one of the places where the Legend and Legend II legendary fish can be caught.
