Carpenter's Shop
Overview
The Carpenter's Shop is located in the Mountain area north of Pelican Town. It is

Robin sells basic building materials and a large selection of furniture. Her permanent stock includes

The shop is the main place to construct, upgrade, move, paint, or demolish farm buildings. Robin can build barns, coops, sheds, silos, mills, fish ponds, a slime hutch, a stable, wells, cabins, and other farm structures, and she can also upgrade the Farmhouse. Farm buildings are built on the farm after purchase, while farmhouse upgrades expand the interior and unlock additional features such as the kitchen, renovations, and the cellar. Construction normally begins the day after an order is placed, though Robin does not work on festival days. Most construction projects finish in two days, with farmhouse upgrades taking three days. During construction or upgrades, Robin may be unavailable for dialogue or gifting.
Several rules affect when the shop can be used. It is closed on Tuesdays unless it rains, when Robin goes to Pierre's General Store to exercise, though it can still be possible to buy from her as she passes the counter. It closes at 4:00 pm on Fridays, is always closed on Thursday, Summer 18, when Robin goes to Harvey's Clinic, and is closed all day on festival days. If Robin is already assigned to a job on the farm, the shop is closed for the day, but regular Tuesday exercise does not delay an existing construction job. When she is unavailable, it may still be possible to catch her at the counter while she is walking past on the way in or out.
Useful notes for players:
- Robin buys building-related resources, including
Battery Pack,
Clay,
Fiber,
Hardwood, Stone, and Wood.
- Wood and Stone increase in price in Year 2, while selling them back to Robin or into the
Shipping Bin does not change.
- Building placement at the Carpenter's Shop is freeform: the construction menu also allows moving existing buildings, including starter buildings such as the
Greenhouse and Shipping Bin.
- Moving a building is instant and free, and the building's contents move with it.
- Paint Buildings is available from the construction menu and applies instantly without cost.
- Sheds, barns, coops, and cabins must be fully upgraded before they can be painted, while the farmhouse can only have its roof painted until the exterior is fully upgraded.
- The shop is also where the Community Upgrade is purchased after completing the Community Center or Joja Warehouse, and where the later town shortcut upgrade is unlocked after that.
- A practical early-game tip is to build a
Silo before a
Coop or
Barn so
Hay can be stored in advance.
