Barn

The Barn is a farm building that houses livestock and provides space for animal products and storage. It can be built and upgraded by Robin at the Carpenter’s Shop, and it is one of the main structures used to raise larger farm animals. A newly built Barn takes three days to complete, during which Robin is unavailable for dialogue or gifting. Upgrading an existing Barn takes two days, but the building remains usable while the upgrade is in progress, and Robin can still be found inside for dialogue or gifting.

Barns can house cows, goats, sheep, pigs, and ostriches. Once an animal type has been unlocked by constructing the barn required for it, that animal may also be placed in any other non-upgraded barns on the farm. This makes it possible to spread livestock across multiple buildings rather than keeping every animal in a single one.

Like a coop, the Barn supports the normal animal routine, but it has a few practical quirks. If the barn doors are closed at night, barn animals may become trapped outside; when this happens, their mood will be grumpy the next day, and they are also exposed to Wild Animal Attacks. The exact conditions that cause animals to end up outside are not fully clear, so leaving doors open until animals return is the safest approach.

The Barn can also be used as flexible storage space, much like a Shed. Players may place Chests, Artisan Equipment, Furniture, and similar objects inside without disturbing the animals, even if those objects block movement paths. This makes the Barn useful not only for livestock, but also for compact utility storage on farms with limited space.

A few other details are worth keeping in mind:

• Petting, milking, and shearing farm animals, as well as picking up an animal product inside a Barn, grant Farming experience.
• The Barn’s presence is tied closely to the Farming skill, since caring for animals contributes to that skill.
• If an animal is trapped outside and a birth or hatch event happens the same night, unusual overcrowding can occur; it is possible for a Barn to contain 13 animals at once in that edge case.

The Barn is therefore both a livestock building and a convenient multipurpose interior space, making it one of the most important structures for any farm focused on animals and artisan production.
