Overview

The Keg is a type of Artisan Equipment used to make Artisan Goods. It can be obtained as a reward for completing certain bundles, and four Kegs can also be obtained as the 19th Prize Machine reward, with a 50% chance. Once placed and loaded with an appropriate ingredient, it produces a finished good after a set processing time.

Kegs can make several beverages and processed goods, but their most important use is in turning crops into high-value artisan products. In general, Kegs multiply the base value of fruits by 3 and most vegetables by 2.25. Because of that, they are especially strong for high-base-value crops such as Ancient Fruit and Melons. By contrast, lower-value, high-yield crops like Corn or Tomatoes usually earn more profit in a Preserves Jar. The point where a crop becomes more profitable in a Keg than in a Preserves Jar is higher for fruits than for vegetables.

Products made in a Keg include:

Processing times vary by item. Coffee and Green Tea are the fastest, while Wine takes the longest, at 6.25 days. Beer and Pale Ale take around a day or more, Mead takes 10 hours, Vinegar takes 10 hours, Juice takes 4 days, and Wine takes 6.25 days. Time passage is approximate because the game treats the hours between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. differently: one hour normally equals 60 minutes, but during that night period one hour equals 100 minutes.

Some materials have special sell-price rules. Juice made from an inedible vegetable uses reduced price multipliers, and Wine made from an inedible fruit does the same. Several forage items can also be turned into Juice, including Wild Horseradish, Leek, Dandelion, Cave Carrot, Spring Onion, Hazelnut, Winter Root, Snow Yam, and Ginger.

Kegs can be stored in farm buildings, and they are often used in large numbers for production setups. A Shed is one of the most space-efficient options, holding 67 Kegs when optimally filled, while a Big Shed can hold 137. Barns can also be used, with the regular Barn holding 90 and the Deluxe Barn fitting 136 in the same footprint as the original Barn. Cabins are another option, with upgraded cabins allowing very large capacities, including 114 for the first upgrade and 351 in version 1.6 for the second upgrade before remodeling. The exact number depends on the building state and available interior space.

Kegs can also be placed almost anywhere outdoors, but they should be kept out of the way. NPCs walking through a Keg will destroy it, so safe locations are best. The Quarry, The Tunnel, the Desert, and the Railroad are all viable outside locations commonly used for large production layouts.
