A starchy snack found in caves. It helps miners work longer.

Overview

The Cave Carrot is a forage item found in The Mines. It can also appear in Garbage Cans, and it may be sold by the Traveling Cart. It is also one of the possible items sold by Vincent at the Desert Festival for Calico Eggs, and one Cave Carrot can sometimes be purchased from Pierre’s booth at the Feast of the Winter Star.

Cave Carrots are used in several parts of the game, making them more than just a simple cave forage item. They are one of the possible items that can fill certain Bundles, and they may also be requested in quests. The item is particularly useful if you are trying to stockpile forage for specialty requests rather than selling every one you find.

  • The Cave Carrot can be requested randomly on the Help Wanted board outside Pierre’s General Store during any season.
  • It can also be requested in Fish Pond quests, with one, two, or five Cave Carrots sometimes needed depending on the fish.
  • After reaching 3 friendship hearts with Marnie, she will request one in the “Marnie’s Request” quest.

Cave Carrots also have a few practical crafting and customization uses. In Tailoring, placing one in the spool of the Sewing Machine with Cloth produces a clothing item. It can also be used as a brown dye ingredient when combined with a dyeable clothing item, and it may be placed in the orange dye pot at Emily and Haley’s house to help with dyeing.

There is also a trading use later in the game: once unlocked, the Raccoon’s wife near the Giant Stump will trade for Cave Carrots. This gives the item additional value even after you no longer need it for early-game requests.

Because Cave Carrots can be found in The Mines and from garbage cans, they are easy to collect gradually without dedicating much effort to them. Keeping a few on hand is useful, since they can satisfy bundle requirements, quest requests, tailoring recipes, and special trades all at once. If you come across extra copies, it is often worth saving them rather than selling them immediately.
