Overview

Sweet Gem Berry is a crop grown from Rare Seeds. It takes a total of 24 days to mature, passing through five growth stages before becoming ready to harvest. The crop is notable for its long growing time and high sell price, making it one of the more valuable single-harvest crops in the game.

Rare Seeds can be obtained from the Traveling Cart in Spring and Summer, or in any season at a higher price. A Seed Maker can also produce Rare Seeds from a harvested Sweet Gem Berry, allowing the crop to be replanted if desired. Because Sweet Gem Berry is not classified as a Fruit or Vegetable, it does not receive the Tiller profession bonus, and it cannot be processed in a Keg, Preserves Jar, or Dehydrator.

Sweet Gem Berry has a few special uses beyond selling. It is one of the options for the Dye Bundle. It is also not used in any recipes, and it is not used in any quests. In tailoring, it can be placed on the Sewing Machine spool to create clothing, and it can also be used as a red dye in the dye pots at Emily and Haley’s house on 2 Willow Lane.

Some other useful properties make the crop stand out:

  • It is considered a neutral gift by all villagers, so it does not strongly affect friendship either way.
  • Giving one to Old Master Cannoli in the Secret Woods rewards the player with a Stardrop.
  • In multiplayer, giving a single Sweet Gem Berry to Old Master Cannoli grants a Stardrop to every player.

Because the berry is slow to grow and cannot be turned into artisan goods, it is usually best treated as a specialty crop rather than a processing ingredient. Players often save at least one for Cannoli’s Stardrop reward and use any extra copies for profit, tailoring, or dye. Its combination of rarity, value, and unique use makes it one of the more memorable late-game crops to obtain and grow.
