Overview

Fiber is a forageable resource and crafting material obtained mainly by destroying weeds or harvesting fully grown Fiber Seeds. It is always normal quality. When a weed is cut with a Scythe, Axe, Pickaxe, Hoe, or Sword, or destroyed by a bomb, it has a 50% chance to drop 1 Fiber. Fiber can also be traded for from the Desert Trader on Tuesdays at a rate of five Stone for one Fiber, and Vincent sells it at the Desert Festival in sets of 10 for Calico Eggs.

Fiber is especially common in the Mines on Floors 25–29 and 81–109, where weeds frequently appear in large numbers. The Mutant Bug Lair is another strong source, since its weeds can yield 40–70 Fiber and respawn every few days. On the Wilderness Farm map, Wilderness Golems and Iridium Golems have a 90% chance to drop Fiber, with a 50% chance to drop an additional Fiber when defeated.

Fiber Seeds grow in 7 days total, with growth spread across 4 stages: 1 day, then 2 days, 2 days, and 2 days. They can be grown in Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter, making Fiber one of the few plantable resources that is not season-restricted.

Fiber is used in a number of crafting, building, and quest contexts:

  • 200 Fiber may be selected as one of the bundle options.
  • Fiber is required to build a Junimo Hut.
  • It is used to craft several items, including Grass Starter, Tree Fertilizer, Wild Bait, Tea Sapling, Straw Floor, and other utility recipes.
  • It can be used in tailoring to make a dyeable Basic Pullover, and it also acts as a green dye item in the Sewing Machine or in Emily and Haley’s dye pot.
  • Fish Pond quests may request 15 Fiber for certain fish, and 200 Fiber is needed for Emily’s “Errand for your Wife” quest.

Fiber can also be traded after unlocking the Raccoon’s shop near the Giant Stump, where the Raccoon’s wife will exchange items for it. Because it is so widely used and so easy to consume in bulk, it is one of the most practical resources to stockpile during normal play.
