Beet

Beet is a vegetable crop that grows from Beet Seeds after 6 days. It is a standard seasonal crop item with a relatively short growth cycle: stage 1 lasts 1 day, stage 2 lasts 1 day, stage 3 lasts 2 days, and stage 4 lasts 2 days before harvest. Once mature, a Beet can be harvested normally like other crops.

Beets have a few notable uses beyond selling or cooking. They can be placed in a Mill to produce 3 Sugar, with the output appearing in the mill’s output box the following morning. This makes Beets a direct source of Sugar once a Mill is available. They are also used in tailoring: a Beet can be placed in the spool of the Sewing Machine to create the dyeable Button Down Shirt, and it can be used as a purple dye in the dye pots at Emily's and Haley's house at 2 Willow Lane.

Beets are also required for quest progress. 10 Beets are needed for the second part of The Mysterious Qi quest, so it is useful to save a stack rather than selling every harvest immediately.

In practice, Beet is most valuable when treated as a utility crop rather than only a cash crop. It can help supply Sugar for cooking and crafting, serve as a dye ingredient, and satisfy quest requirements. Because Sugar is produced through the Mill rather than directly from the crop, any Beets intended for processing should be kept unharvested only until they are needed, then milled after collection.
