Amaranth

Amaranth is a vegetable crop that grows from Amaranth Seeds after 7 days. It is harvested using a Scythe or better, making it one of the crops that must be cut rather than picked by hand.

Its growth cycle is divided into four stages before harvest: 1 day, 2 days, 2 days, and 2 days, for a total of 7 days from planting to maturity. Because of that short growing time, it fits well into farming rotations when a quick vegetable is needed.

Amaranth is also used in several game systems beyond farming:

• It is one of the options for the Community Center bundle that accepts vegetables.
• It is used in the Sewing Machine with Cloth in the feed to create a dyeable clothing item.
• When used with a dyeable clothing item, it produces a pale violet-red dye.
• It can be placed in the purple dye pot at Emily's and Haley's house for use in dyeing.
• Marnie requests Amaranth in a letter on the 3rd of Fall for the Cow's Delight quest, which rewards the player with an item and 1 friendship heart.

Because Amaranth is both a harvest crop and a dye ingredient, it has value even when it is not needed for shipping or cooking. Players who care about bundles, tailoring, or quest completion may want to keep at least one copy on hand rather than selling every harvest immediately.
