Melon is a fruit crop that grows from Melon Seeds in 12 days. It is one of the five crops that can grow into a giant crop, so leaving a fully grown 3×3 square of Melons unharvested gives them a chance to merge into a Giant Crop. Its growth time is split into five stages: 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, 3 days, and 3 days before harvest.
Beyond selling as a normal crop, Melon has several uses. It is required for Demetrius’s “Crop Research” quest, where he requests one by mail on Summer 20, and it can also be randomly requested on the Help Wanted board outside Stone's General Store during summer. A fully grown but unharvested Melon is also needed for the Gourmand Frog puzzle on Ginger Island.
Melon is used in tailoring with the Sewing Machine. Placing it in the spool with Cloth in the feed creates a dyeable clothing item, and placing it in the spool with a dyeable clothing item produces pink dye. It can also be placed in the red dye pot at Emily's and Haley's house, 2 Willow Lane, for dyeing.
