Mixed Seeds

Mixed Seeds are a random type of seed that turn into a seasonal crop when planted. The crop is determined at the moment of planting, and Mixed Seeds collected in any season always grow into crops for the season in which they are planted. They can also be planted in the Greenhouse and in indoor Garden Pots, where they behave like they are being planted in the current season; in winter, they cannot be planted outside, but can still be used in those indoor locations. On Ginger Island, Mixed Seeds always produce the same crop set regardless of season.

Mixed Seeds are useful early on because they can be obtained from many ordinary activities and can produce free crops without needing to buy farm seeds. They can also appear as a quest item in Fish Pond requests, and in some cases they may be requested in quantities of three or five. When planted on the Farm during spring, Parsnip Seeds are twice as likely to be chosen as Cauliflower or Potato Seeds.

Ways to obtain Mixed Seeds include:

• Harvesting weeds with a Scythe, Axe, Pickaxe, Hoe, Sword, or bomb, if Fiber does not drop
• Tilling dirt or sand
• Fishing Treasure Chests
• Buying them from Krobus on Thursdays
• Buying them at the Stardew Valley Fair shop
• Drops from Wilderness Golems and Iridium Golems on the Wilderness Farm
• Producing them from Crayfish, Periwinkle, or Snail Fish Ponds once the pond population reaches 5
• Using the Seed Maker, which has a small chance to return Mixed Seeds instead of crop seeds
• Finding them in Supply Crates on the Beach Farm
• Opening a Mystery Box
• Buying them from the Calico Egg Merchant, Evelyn, or Jodi during the Desert Festival
• Buying them from the Raccoon’s wife after completing the fourth request
• Receiving them from the prize machine in the Mayor’s Manor

Mixed Seeds can be traded in some special cases as well. Ten Mixed Seeds can be exchanged for a Raccoon Hat after the third request from the Raccoon family is completed. They also appear in the recipe chain for Fiber Seeds, which are unlocked through the Community Cleanup Special Order.

Because the exact crop is randomized, Mixed Seeds are best used when any seasonal crop is acceptable, or when you want inexpensive planting material for filling out garden space. They are especially handy for patching bare soil, stocking the Greenhouse, or making use of indoor pots during winter.
