Smallmouth Bass is a fish that can be caught in the river in Pelican Town and the pond in Cindersap Forest during Spring and Fall. It can also appear in Garbage Cans during those seasons, and may randomly show up at the Traveling Cart. With Magic Bait, it can be caught in any season.
Smallmouth Bass is found in the town river and the forest pond, making it a fairly common early-game river fish. It can be caught regardless of season when using Magic Bait, which lets it remain available even outside its normal Spring and Fall windows.
It has a few practical uses:
It is not used in any bundles.
It can be used in the Sewing Machine to create the Fishing Vest.
It can be used as orange dye in dye pots at Emily's and Haley's house.
Smallmouth Bass can also be placed in a Fish Pond. The pond starts with a capacity of 3 fish and can be expanded to 10 by completing three quests. Smallmouth Bass reproduce every 2 days, and the only possible produce is dark brown Smallmouth Bass Roe. At population levels 1 through 10, the pond has a 90% chance to produce Roe and a 10% chance to produce nothing each day. The pond quests may request items such as acorns, Bug Meat, Maple Seeds, Pine Cones, Gold Ore, Maple Syrup, Mixed Seeds, Crayfish, Honey, Jade, or Periwinkle, and each completed quest grants 30 Fishing XP.
Smallmouth Bass may also be requested on the Help Wanted board outside Stone's General Store. In Spring or Fall, an item delivery request can ask for one Smallmouth Bass, rewarding gold and 150 Friendship points. Willy or Demetrius may also request 1 to 4 Smallmouth Bass during Spring or Fall, with a reward per fish and the player keeping the fish.
