A precious ore that can be smelted into bars.

Overview

Gold Ore is a resource obtained largely from Gold Nodes with a Pickaxe. It is one of the main metal ores in Stardew Valley and is most commonly gathered while mining, though it can also appear from a variety of other sources throughout the game.

Gold Ore can be found in Gold Nodes in the Mines starting at floor 80, and in the Skull Cavern it appears rarely from floor 60 onward and more commonly from floor 80 onward. Nodes may also spawn in the Quarry, including the quarries on the Hill-top and Four Corners Farm maps. Other ways to obtain it include breaking boxes and barrels in the Mines, defeating Ghosts, opening fishing treasure chests, digging up Beachfront Artifact Spots, cracking Frozen Geodes, Magma Geodes, or Omni Geodes, panning, buying it from the Traveling Cart, purchasing it from the Blacksmith, or collecting it from a Lava Eel Fish Pond once the population reaches 3 or more.

Its most important use is smelting: 5 Gold Ore and 1 Coal can be placed in a Furnace to produce 1 Gold Bar after about 5 in-game hours. Gold Bars are needed for many advanced upgrades and recipes, so ore is often worth saving rather than selling immediately. Gold Ore itself can also be shipped or sold to the Blacksmith as a mineral resource.

Gold Ore has several smaller utility uses as well. It can be used in the spool of the Sewing Machine to craft the dyeable Turtleneck Sweater, and it can serve as a yellow dye ingredient at the dye pots in Emily and Haley’s house. Three Gold Ore may also be requested by certain fish in Fish Pond quests to raise a pond’s capacity from 5 to 7.

Because it is a metal ore, Gold Ore is one of the items that the Blacksmith will buy directly, making it part of the broader gold-earning loop of collecting resources and shipping or selling them. Like other valuable items, it can contribute to progress toward money-related achievements, and items with higher sell values will cause the inventory popup to appear shaded purple when picked up.
