Clint

Clint is a villager who lives in Pelican Town and runs the local Blacksmith. He is one of the town’s main service NPCs, handling tool upgrades and geode processing, and he also plays a role in several quests, festival appearances, and friendship events.

He is closely tied to Emily in the town’s social life and often visits the saloon to be near her, though he is too shy to approach her directly. Gus has dialogue that implies he notices Clint’s crush, and a note in Clint’s bedroom confirms his feelings. Clint also becomes involved in a number of story and task requests, including the introductory blacksmith blueprint quest, a request to help Emily, a Winter 17 letter asking for an Iron Bar, and occasional Help Wanted and Special Orders board quests such as ore delivery, monster slaying, and Cave Patrol.

Clint’s normal routine is centered on the Blacksmith. On regular days he stands behind the counter in the morning, works at the anvil in the evening, and goes to the saloon at night before returning home. His availability changes in several situations:

• On Fridays after the Community Center is restored, he is unavailable for shopping, tool upgrades, and geode processing unless it is raining.
• On rainy days, he remains at the Blacksmith later and still visits the saloon at night.
• After the Beach Resort on Ginger Island is unlocked, he may randomly spend a Friday there.
• During special events such as the Desert Festival, Night Market, Winter 15, Winter 16, and Green Rain, he follows unique event schedules.

For gifts, Clint is one of the easiest villagers to please if the player remembers his preferences. He loves a number of valuable mining and cooking items, including Amethyst, Aquamarine, Emerald, Ruby, Topaz, Jade, Omni Geode, Gold Bar, Iridium Bar, Artichoke Dip, and Fiddlehead Risotto. He likes most universal liked gifts except flowers, along with Copper Bar, Iron Bar, and Mining Monthly. He is neutral toward most eggs, fruit, milk, several forage items, Coal, Gold Ore, Iridium Ore, and Refined Quartz, but dislikes Quartz, Salmonberry, Wild Horseradish, and most flowers. Holly is universally hated. He also has a small chance to mail the player a gift once friendship is above zero, with the chance increasing as friendship rises; one example is a note from him including a metal bar.

At the movies, Clint likes many films, including It Howls In The Rain, Journey Of The Prairie King: The Motion Picture, Mysterium, Natural Wonders: Exploring Our Vibrant World, The Brave Little Sapling, The Miracle At Coldstar Ranch, and Wumbus, while he dislikes The Zuzu City Express. For concessions, he loves Fries and Stardrop Sorbet, dislikes Apple Slices, Black Licorice, Hummus Snack Pack, Jasmine Tea, Joja Cola, JojaCorn, Kale Smoothie, and Panzanella Salad, and likes everything else.

Clint’s dialogue includes special lines for events, seasons, and friendship levels, and his portraits show several distinct expressions and outfits, including winter and beach variants. Trivia associated with him notes that he is a fan of the blues, has a four-fingered left hand in one portrait, and that his 7-heart recipe is Bean Hotpot.
