Golden Mystery Box

Golden Mystery Boxes are special drop crates unlocked after claiming Foraging Mastery and watching the cutscene in which Mister Qi informs the player that Mystery Boxes can now be found. They function similarly to normal Mystery Boxes and can be obtained through a wide range of activities. With the exception of the Golden Animal Cracker and Auto-Petter, every item found in a Golden Mystery Box can also be found in a regular Mystery Box.

Golden Mystery Boxes can be opened by Clint at the Blacksmith, in the same way that geodes are processed. Unlike geodes, however, they cannot be broken open with a Geode Crusher.

The chance to find one depends on the source, and several sources scale with daily luck or luck buffs. A successful spawn attempt also requires Foraging Mastery; if the player has not claimed it, the check fails outright. If Foraging Mastery has been claimed, the spawn attempt succeeds 66% of the time without the power from the Book of Mysteries, or 88% of the time with it.

They can be obtained from:

• Regular fishing treasure chests
• Golden fishing treasure chests
• Panning
• Shaking trees with seeds
• Monsters
• Breaking containers in the Mines, Skull Cavern, and Volcano Dungeon
• Chopping trees, with each axe hit having a chance to produce one
• Trading 3 Mystery Boxes at the Giant Stump
• A treasure chest in the Skull Cavern, which can yield 5 Golden Mystery Boxes
• Some treasure chests are also influenced by daily luck and, in some cases, luck buffs

Their possible contents include a wide assortment of crafting materials, resources, consumables, books, and special rewards. The listed item chances assume the player has already claimed Farming Mastery for the Golden Animal Cracker and has already obtained at least one Book of Mysteries. If Farming Mastery has not been claimed, the chances for the other available items are slightly higher. If the first Book of Mysteries has not yet been obtained, the Book of Stars cannot appear from Golden Mystery Boxes, and the Book of Mysteries itself becomes more likely.

Golden Mystery Boxes are not used in any bundles or quests. They are also not used in tailoring. However, they can be used as dye: they act as yellow dye at the dye pots in Emily and Haley’s house at 2 Willow Lane, and they can be used as gold dye in the Sewing Machine when placed in the spool with a dyeable clothing item. After the sixth request from the Raccoon family has been completed and Foraging Mastery has been claimed, 20 Golden Mystery Boxes can also be traded to the Raccoon’s wife for 1 Magic Rock Candy.
