Sam

Sam is a villager who lives in Pelican Town and one of the twelve marriage candidates. He lives at 1 Willow Lane, in the southern part of town just north of the river, with his mother Jodi and younger brother Vincent. After Kent returns in Year 2, the whole family lives together in the house again. Sam is outgoing and energetic, with a strong interest in music; he works part-time at JojaMart, plays guitar in his free time, and also spends time skateboarding and playing video games.

Sam’s routine changes often, but he is usually found in or around his home in the morning before heading into town later in the day. He commonly practices guitar in his bedroom, sometimes with Sebastian accompanying him on electric piano, and he may also stand outside his house playing a handheld game or attempting skateboard tricks. On weekends he can be found playing pool at the Stardrop Saloon. He works on Monday and Wednesday at JojaMart if it is open, or at the Museum if the Community Center has been restored. In spring he often visits the Stardrop Saloon, in summer he goes to the Beach, and in fall he visits the woods west of town. When it rains, he usually stays home or goes to the saloon for part of the day. On Fall 11, he has an appointment at Harvey’s Clinic. After Ginger Island’s Beach Resort is unlocked, he may spend a day there randomly; if he leaves the island at 6 PM, he goes straight home to bed.

Several special schedules stand out. On Spring 9 and 23, his behavior changes depending on whether any player has 6 hearts with Penny or Sam. He also has a festival-specific routine for the Desert Festival, and on Spring 15, if the bus service is restored, he rides to Calico Desert for the event. After marriage, Sam moves into the farmhouse and adds his own room to the right of the bedroom. He also builds a half-pipe behind the farmhouse and sometimes goes there to practice skateboard tricks. While married, he may occasionally give the player a gift found “rolling around in the back of a drawer,” including Cactus Fruit, Coconut, Earth Crystal, or Geode. On rainy nights he may offer Pizza, and on days when he stays inside all day he may give instant Pancakes, saying he never learned to cook.

Sam is close to Vincent and feels responsible for him while Kent is away. Sebastian and Abigail are his bandmates and closest friends, and the three often hang out together. At the Stardrop Saloon, Sebastian usually beats Sam at pool while Abigail watches. Sam is also friends with Penny and will dance with her at the Flower Dance if neither is dancing with the player.

Sam loves Cactus Fruit, Maple Bar, Pizza, and Tigerseye. He likes most universal liked items, most eggs, and Joja Cola. He is neutral toward most fruit and milk. He dislikes most universal disliked items and most vegetables, along with Chanterelle, Common Mushroom, Daffodil, Dandelion, Ginger, Hazelnut, Holly, Leek, Magma Cap, Morel, Purple Mushroom, Quartz, Salmonberry, Seaweed, Snow Yam, Wild Horseradish, and Winter Root. He hates most universal hated items, including Bone Fragment, Cinder Shard, Coal, Copper Bar, Duck Mayonnaise, Gold Bar, Gold Ore, Iridium Bar, Iridium Ore, Iron Bar, Mayonnaise, Pickles, and Refined Quartz.

He also has clear preferences for movie theater concessions: he loves Personal Pizza and Stardrop Sorbet, likes everything else, and dislikes Apple Slices, Black Licorice, Cappuccino Mousse Cake, Hummus Snack Pack, Jasmine Tea, JojaCorn, Kale Smoothie, Panzanella Salad, and Truffle Popcorn. Sam may also randomly request items on the Help Wanted board outside Pierre’s General Store, rewarding 3 times the item’s base value and 150 friendship points.

Sam is allergic to pollen, which he mentions during the Egg Festival, and comments that his nose is especially happy in summer when pollen is lower. His name is short for Samson, which he reveals once he trusts the player enough, and he asks that the player not tell anyone.
