Purple Mushroom

The Purple Mushroom is a forageable item that appears in several underground and special locations in Stardew Valley. It is most commonly associated with the late floors of the Mines, where it can be found on Mushroom Floors between floors 81 and 119, and it can also be obtained in the dangerous mine levels between floors 41 and 49, in the Skull Cavern, or from a Mushroom Tree when it has been tapped or chopped. Other sources include the Farm Cave after it has been converted for mushrooms, the Ginger Island mushroom cave, Mushroom Logs, the Traveling Cart, the Wizard’s mail, garbage cans after reaching floor 40 of the Mines, and the Forest Farm map during Fall.

It can also appear as a gift during the Feast of the Winter Star, and it may be requested on the Help Wanted board after the player has reached the bottom of the Mines. In addition, several fish pond quests can require Purple Mushrooms to expand a pond’s capacity, making it useful to keep a few on hand even if you do not plan to cook or craft with it.

Purple Mushroom is used in a number of progression and customization systems. It is one of the items accepted in several bundle options, and five Purple Mushrooms can satisfy one of the bundle requirements as well. It is also used in tailoring: placing it in the sewing machine with Cloth produces a clothing item, and using it with a dyeable clothing item makes it available as a purple dye. It can also be placed in the purple dye pot at Emily and Haley’s house.

Because it has both utility and collection value, Purple Mushroom is worth saving when you find it, especially if you are working on bundles, tailoring, or fish pond upgrades. Its many acquisition methods mean it can show up well before it becomes immediately useful, but it remains a flexible item throughout the game.
