Place on a maple, oak, or pine tree and wait for the reservoir to fill with product! Works twice as fast as a normal tapper.

Overview

The Heavy Tapper is a crafted item that functions like a Tapper but works at twice the normal production rate. Its recipe can be purchased from Mister Qi's Secret Walnut Room on Ginger Island. When placed on a tree, it produces the same kinds of tapped products as a regular Tapper, including Maple Syrup, Oak Resin, Pine Tar, Mystic Syrup, and Sap. It can also be placed on a Mushroom Tree to produce mushrooms, though the production speed is not improved there, and it can be placed on a Green Rain Tree (Type 3) to produce Fiddlehead Ferns. Other types of Green Rain Tree cannot be tapped.

A Heavy Tapper can be removed from a tree by striking it once with an axe or pickaxe. This removes the tapper without destroying it, allowing it to be reused elsewhere. If the tree is hit by lightning while a Heavy Tapper is attached, both the tapper and any stored product are destroyed. Heavy Tappers placed on Maple Trees, Oak Trees, Pine Trees, Mahogany Trees, or Mystic Trees continue producing during Winter, but Mushroom Trees and Green Rain Tree (Type 3) turn into stumps in Winter, so any tappers on them produce nothing during that season.

Because the Heavy Tapper only changes production time, it is most useful on trees whose minimum tap time is long enough to benefit from the reduction. In practice, this means it gives no advantage on Mahogany Trees, since tap production cannot go below one night. For trees that produce slow, valuable goods such as Oak Resin, Pine Tar, or Mystic Syrup, the doubled speed can make a noticeable difference over time.

The item also shares the same basic behavior as a normal Tapper for placement and retrieval, so it is easy to move between trees as needed. Since the product remains tied to the specific tree type, the Heavy Tapper is best treated as an upgraded production tool rather than a separate source of goods.

  • Maple Trees produce Maple Syrup.
  • Oak Trees produce Oak Resin.
  • Pine Trees produce Pine Tar.
  • Mahogany Trees produce Sap.
  • Mystic Trees produce Mystic Syrup.
  • Mushroom Trees produce Common Mushroom, Red Mushroom, or Purple Mushroom.
  • Green Rain Tree (Type 3) produces Fiddlehead Ferns.

A known issue exists with Oak Trees and Maple Trees tapped using a Heavy Tapper: in Fall, they can incorrectly turn into Green Rain Trees, even though this should only happen to trees that do not have a tapper attached.
