Cherry Bomb

Generates a small explosion. Stand back!
Overview
Cherry Bomb is an explosive item that affects tiles in a small area when used. It has a radius of 3 tiles with a 7-tile diameter, making it the smallest of the standard bomb types. Because of its limited range, it is useful when the player wants to clear a compact area without the larger spread of more powerful explosives.
When detonated, a Cherry Bomb can interact with many objects in its blast radius. Rocks and ore or gem nodes drop their usual contents, while mushrooms, artifact spots, and foraged minerals are destroyed. Any untilled dirt tiles within a much smaller radius are tilled; in The Mines and Skull Cavern, items such as clay or artifacts can be dropped from those tiles at the same rate as if a hoe had been used. Outside those areas, nothing drops unless the affected spot is tied to a Secret Note. Crafted artisan and refining equipment are destroyed, as are heaters. Auto-Grabbers are not destroyed, whether empty or full.
Cherry Bombs also damage trees directly. Trees are destroyed once their health reaches zero, and ten Cherry Bombs will knock down a fully grown tree. Five additional explosions are enough to destroy the stump. When a tree is destroyed this way, it drops wood, sap, and any seeds it contained.
As a utility item, Cherry Bomb is also used in crafting-related systems:
- It can be placed in the spool of the
Sewing Machine to create a Bomber Jacket.
- It can be used as a red dye at the dye pots in
Emily's and
Haley's house.
- It can also serve as red dye in the Sewing Machine when combined with a dyeable clothing item.
Cherry Bomb is therefore best thought of as a small-radius explosive with niche clearing uses. Its modest blast makes it less suited to large-scale mining than stronger bombs, but it is still effective for targeting clusters of rocks, nodes, or tightly packed obstacles without affecting a wide area.
