Cockle

Cockle is a fish item used in several gameplay systems, most notably Fish Ponds, tailoring, and certain quests. It can be placed in a Fish Pond, where the population will reproduce every 2 days. The pond starts with a capacity of 3, and can be expanded to 10 by completing three quests. At lower populations, the pond most commonly produces light gray Cockle Roe, Seaweed, and trash items, while higher populations unlock rarer outputs.

The Fish Pond quest chain for Cockle asks for increasing amounts of materials to expand capacity:

• 3 to 5 capacity: 5 Clay
• 5 to 7 capacity: 10 Bug Meat or 5 Quartz
• 7 to 10 capacity: 1 Sea Urchin, 5 Solar Essence, or 1 Wild Bait

At population 5 and above, the pond can also produce Coral, Sea Urchin, and Warp Totem: Beach, with Nautilus Shell appearing at the highest population range. As the population grows, the odds of Roe, Seaweed, and trash-related outputs shift slightly, but the pond continues to remain a steady source of mixed fishing-related materials.

Cockle is also useful outside the pond. It can be used in the Sewing Machine spool to create the dyeable Sailor Shirt, and it may be requested by The Raccoon as part of the first request or from the sixth request onward. Because it is a valid pond fish and a quest item, keeping a few Cockles on hand is useful for players who want to maintain Fish Ponds or complete special orders quickly.

Unlike many crafted metal and wood items, tackle can be sold, and Cockle itself is part of the broader fishing-related item pool rather than a piece of tackle equipment. It is one of the fish items that can support long-term farming through Fish Ponds while also serving niche crafting and quest purposes.
