Flounder

Flounder is a fish that can be caught in the ocean at The Beach or on the Beach Farm during Spring and Summer. It can also be caught during any season on Ginger Island West (ocean), South, Southeast, and in the Pirate Cove. Like most fish, it can be found in the ocean and on Ginger Island, and it may also appear at the Traveling Cart or in Garbage Cans during Spring or Summer.

Magic Bait allows Flounder to be caught regardless of time of day or season, making it the easiest way to target one outside its usual seasonal and location limits. For quest purposes, one Flounder may be requested on the Help Wanted board in Spring or Summer, and Aquatic Overpopulation may ask for 10 Flounder as a Special Order in Spring.

Flounder can be placed in a Fish Pond, where it reproduces every 2 days. The pond starts with a capacity of 3 fish and can be expanded to 10 through two quests. Its main output is dark brown Flounder Roe, and Sea Jelly becomes possible once the population reaches 7.

• The first pond expansion raises capacity from 3 to 5 and requires 3 Coral.
• The second expansion raises capacity from 5 to 10 and requires 1 Sea Jelly.
• Pond produce is mainly Roe at lower populations, with a small chance of extra output at higher populations.
• Flounder can also produce nothing in the pond, depending on population and daily roll.

Flounder also has a few useful crafting and tailoring uses. It can be used in the Sewing Machine spool to create the Sailor Shirt, and it can be used as dye. In Emily and Haley’s dye pots, it counts as orange dye, while in the Sewing Machine it acts as brown dye when combined with a dyeable clothing item.
