Lingcod

Lingcod is a fish that can be caught in the river in Pelican Town or Cindersap Forest, as well as in the Mountain Lake during Winter. It is also obtainable from a pet cat at maximum friendship. With Magic Bait, it can be caught regardless of season. It may also appear in Krobus’ shop on Wednesdays or at the Traveling Cart.

In the Fish Pond, Lingcod reproduce every 3 days. The pond starts with a capacity of 3 fish and can be expanded to 10 by completing three quests. The main output is dark brown Lingcod Roe, and once the population reaches 9, Bug Meat can also be produced. At lower populations, the pond mostly produces roe, while higher populations slightly increase the chance of producing nothing instead.

Lingcod also has a few practical uses outside of selling or pond production:

• It can be used in the Sewing Machine to create the Fishing Vest.
• It can be used as orange dye in the dye pots at Emily and Haley’s house.
• Willy mails a Lingcod request on Winter 13 in year 2 for the “Catch a Lingcod” quest; a Lingcod caught before accepting the quest still counts.
• Demetrius may request 10 Lingcod for the Special Orders quest Aquatic Overpopulation, which is available in Winter and rewards gold equal to the fish’s selling value plus the Farm Computer recipe.

For Fish Pond quests, Lingcod follows the standard capacity progression:

• 3 to 5 capacity: 2 Bream, 2 Carp, or 2 Chub
• 5 to 7 capacity: 2 Bullhead or 2 Largemouth Bass
• 7 to 10 capacity: 2 Ghostfish, 2 Sandfish, or 2 Woodskip

At full pond population, the produce becomes more variable, but Lingcod remains most useful for roe production, dyeing, tailoring, and quest fulfillment.
