Overview

The Woodskip is a fish that can be caught in the pond in the Secret Woods during any season. It is most common there on non-rainy days, with each cast having a 15% to 27% chance to hook one depending on Fishing level. Casting at least 3 tiles from shore improves the odds further. Woodskip can also be caught on the Forest Farm, where each cast has a 0% to 17.5% chance depending on daily luck. It is also found in the Traveling Cart.

Woodskip can be caught in the Secret Woods and on the Forest Farm. Because the Secret Woods pond is available year-round, it is the most reliable place to target one, especially when the weather is clear. The Forest Farm is a secondary option, but its catch rate is tied to daily luck and is much less consistent.

A Woodskip can be placed in a Fish Pond, where it reproduces every 2 days. The pond starts with a capacity of 1 fish and can be expanded to 10 by completing four population quests. Like other fish ponds, Woodskip ponds produce items over time, with orange Woodskip Roe as the main output and wood-related items among the possible extras. Once the population reaches 6, the pond can begin producing additional tree-related goods.

The required quest items for expanding a Woodskip pond are:

The fish pond also grants Fishing XP when quests are completed, and Woodskip quests each grant 30 XP.

Woodskip can be useful beyond fishing and pond production. In the Sewing Machine, it can be used in the spool to create the Fishing Vest. It can also be used as an orange dye item at the dye pots in Emily and Haley’s house.

The fish pond’s production changes with population size. Its most common output is Roe, but it can also produce wood, Hardwood, and other forest-themed items. At higher populations, the chance to produce nothing decreases while the chance to produce rarer secondary items increases. This makes a Woodskip pond a practical choice for players who want a steady supply of Roe with occasional wood-based resources on the side.

Two Woodskip may also be requested in certain fish pond quests for Dorado, Lingcod, or Pike when increasing a pond’s capacity from 7 to 10.
