Maple Seed

Maple Seed is a foraging seed item used to grow a Maple Tree. When planted outdoors, it progresses through four growth stages before becoming a mature tree, with stage 4 taking twice as long as the earlier stages. If the seed is fertilized, it can mature in five days even during Winter; otherwise, tree growth stops in Winter and each non-winter day has a 20% chance of advancing growth. The median time to maturity is 24 days, though individual growth times vary.

A mature Maple Tree is one of the common tree types and can be tapped for Maple Syrup every 9 days, or every 4 days with a Heavy Tapper. It can also be chopped down with an axe for Wood, Sap, and a chance of Maple Seeds, with Hardwood possible if the player has the Lumberjack profession. Shaking a Maple Tree can also yield a Maple Seed, although during Fall 14–28 it instead drops a Hazelnut. Outside the farm, Maple Trees can still be tapped or chopped, and in non-Pelican Town areas they respawn as Stage 3 saplings if the stump is removed and the tile is clear. Trees in these areas may also become Green Rain Trees in Fall, but a tapper prevents this transformation. Chopping a stage 2 or 3 tree with an axe can also drop one wood, depending on foraging level.

Maple Seed has a few other uses besides planting. Ten Maple Seeds may appear as one of the reward options for the Bridge Repair Bundle. It can also be used in the Sewing Machine spool to create a cosmetic clothing item, and it serves as an orange dye in the dye pots at Emily and Haley’s house. In addition, several fish pond quests may request three Maple Seeds, and once unlocked, the Raccoon’s wife near the Giant Stump will trade for them.

Maple Seed is part of the basic tree-seed set, alongside the other common tree seeds used to establish a renewable source of wood, syrup, and foraging materials. Because Maple Trees can be tapped for maple syrup and also occasionally return seeds when shaken or chopped, planting spare seeds is a practical way to expand both income and crafting resources.
