Wood

A sturdy, yet flexible plant material with a wide variety of uses.
Overview
Wood is a basic resource used throughout Stardew Valley. It is obtained mainly by chopping down Trees and branches with an axe, and it can also be bought from

Chopping a fully grown tree normally yields 12–16 Wood, and breaking the stump afterward yields an additional 5–9 Wood. The exact amount depends on Luck and the player’s Foraging level. The Forester profession increases wood from both trees and stumps, while Woody’s Secret only affects wood from trees. Trees cut down near water may lose some or all of their wood if it falls into the water, so it is best to stand on the side opposite the direction you want the tree to fall.
Wood has many uses and is one of the most important construction materials in the game. It is spent on:
- building and upgrading farm buildings at the Carpenter's Shop
- crafting a wide variety of items
- creating 1
Coal by loading 10 Wood into a
Charcoal Kiln
- repairing the tide pool bridge at the Beach with 300 Wood
- the Community Upgrade, which requires 950 Wood
- the special order "Robin's Resource Rush," which asks for 1000 Wood within one week
It is also used in several crafting and tailoring recipes, including the

Wood is sold by Robin, and her price increases starting in Year 2. The gold earned from selling Wood to Robin or shipping it remains unchanged. Robin may also stock up to 500 Wood at the Desert Festival, where it is sold for Calico Eggs rather than gold.
A few other ways to get Wood are especially notable:
- the Bookseller trades 100 Wood for 1 Woodcutter's Weekly
- Robin gives 99 Wood as a winter star gift
- Woodskip Fish Ponds can produce between 1 and 10 Wood, depending on pond population
- chipped Hardwood and Driftwood can yield Wood through recycling or breaking
Because Wood is used in so many progression paths, it is one of the most consistently valuable resources in the game, especially early on when building, crafting, and farm expansion all compete for the same supply.
