Red Mullet

Red Mullet is a fish that can be caught in the ocean. It is one of the ocean fish used in several crafting, tailoring, and quest-related activities, and it can also be raised in a Fish Pond.

In tailoring, Red Mullet can be placed in the spool of the Sewing Machine to create the dyeable Sailor Shirt. It can also be used as a red dye in the dye pots at Haley's and Emily's house at 2 Willow Lane.

Red Mullet can be placed in a Fish Pond, where it reproduces every 2 days. The pond starts with a capacity of 3 fish and can be expanded to 10 by completing three quests. Its only possible pond output is red-colored Red Mullet Roe. The pond progression requires:

• 3 to 5 fish: 3 Driftwood, 1 Frozen Geode, or 1-2 Seaweed
• 5 to 7 fish: 2 Clams or 2 Coral
• 7 to 10 fish: 2 Aquamarine, 1 Mussel, or 2 Sea Urchins

A Red Mullet Fish Pond grants 30 Fishing XP for each quest, and produces Roe with a 12 Fishing XP reward. At lower populations, the pond has a chance to produce nothing instead of Roe, but at 5 or more fish the chance of production is much higher.

It is also requested in quests. During Summer or Winter, the Help Wanted board outside Pierre's General Store may ask for:

• 1 red mullet for an Item Delivery quest, with a reward of gold and 150 Friendship points
• 1 to 4 red mullets for a Fishing quest from Demetrius or Willy, with a reward per fish and the fish kept by the player

In addition, Demetrius may request 10 Red Mullet during Summer for the Aquatic Overpopulation Special Order on the board outside the Mayor's Manor. This rewards gold equivalent to selling the fish and the Farm Computer recipe.
