Gate

Gate is a placeable fence component used to create an opening in a fence line. It can be inserted into an existing fence by selecting the gate in inventory and clicking a fence piece, replacing that piece with the gate.

Although it is only one tile wide, a horse can ride through a gate in any orientation and in any direction. This makes gates especially useful for keeping fenced areas accessible without having to leave gaps in the fence. Gates also visually blend with adjacent fence materials: if a gate is surrounded by other Stone Fence or Hardwood Fence pieces, it takes on the color of that fence type instead of its normal dark brown appearance.

A gate can be broken with a pickaxe without being destroyed. This means it can be removed and immediately placed again, which is useful if you need to temporarily adjust a fence layout. If a gate is about to degrade, you can break it first and replace it the same day to preserve the setup.

• A gate can be placed directly into a fence line by clicking on an existing fence piece with the gate selected.
• Horses can pass through gates regardless of the gate’s orientation.
• Gates inherit the color of nearby Stone Fence or Hardwood Fence pieces when surrounded by them.
• Pickaxing a gate removes it without destroying it, allowing immediate replacement.
