Greenhouse

A place to grow crops from any season, year round!
Overview
The Greenhouse is a farm building that provides a fully controlled growing space for crops and fruit trees. Its interior contains a 10-row-by-12-column planted area where crops can be grown and harvested in any season, with no need to follow normal season restrictions. Because it is indoors, crops and fruit trees inside the Greenhouse are never struck by lightning, and crows are not a threat, so scarecrows are unnecessary.
The farmable area is bordered by a one-tile-wide wooden edge and surrounded by a two-tile-thick outer region. The crop tiles themselves must still be watered, even on rainy days, but there is a water trough along the north wall for refilling the Watering Can. Crops that regrow continue producing indefinitely instead of dying at the end of a season, making the Greenhouse especially valuable for long-term plantings.

Automation is possible with sprinklers, but the layout has limitations. The farmable area is too large to be covered from the edges alone, and the rectangular shape means some crop tiles must be sacrificed for sprinkler placement. Depending on sprinkler quality, the number of occupied tiles varies substantially. Iridium Sprinklers are the most space-efficient among standard options, and Pressure Nozzles reduce the footprint further. An alternative is
Fruit trees can also be planted in the outer region of the Greenhouse, as long as the tile is not occupied by decorative objects and the surrounding tiles are kept clear of player-placed items while the tree is growing. Trees cannot be planted in the corners, and neither the wall nor the wooden border blocks their growth. Fruit trees inside the Greenhouse always use their summer appearance, and up to 18 trees can be planted there for a total yield of 54 fruit every 3 days. When placing trees, leave enough space around them for growth even if the nearby border is otherwise usable for sprinklers.
A few special rules apply inside the Greenhouse:
- Bee Houses placed inside produce no honey.
- Giant Crops cannot grow there.
- The shadow on the left side of the building can overlap tilled ground, but that area cannot be tilled.
- Multiple-harvest crops and fertilizer remain in place until removed by the player, so fertilizer can be preserved by planting a cheap crop if needed.
