Overview

Banana is a fruit that can be harvested from a Banana Tree, which is a fruit tree. A Banana Tree sapling can be bought from the Island Trader for 5 Dragon Teeth, found inside a Golden Coconut, or received as a reward from the Large Animal collection in the Island Field Office. Once planted, it takes 28 days to mature, after which the tree produces one Banana each day during Summer in Stardew Valley, or year-round on Ginger Island and in the Greenhouse.

Like other fruit trees, a Banana Tree must be planted in the center of a completely clear 3×3 area, with no objects, flooring, or terrain features in any of the surrounding tiles, and its growth area may not overlap another fruit tree’s. After the tree matures, the surrounding 3×3 area no longer needs to stay clear. Fruit quality improves with age: each full year after maturation raises the quality, eventually reaching iridium quality after three years. If a fruit tree is struck by lightning during a storm, it produces Coal for 4 days instead of fruit. Fruit trees can also be planted in the Greenhouse.

Banana has several uses beyond selling or eating. It can be used in the Sewing Machine with Cloth to create a dyeable item, and it acts as a yellow dye when placed in the dye spool with a dyeable clothing item. It can also be placed in the yellow dye pot at Emily and Haley’s house for dyeing.

It is also an important quest and unlock item on Ginger Island. Banana is used to activate the Banana Shrine, located to the left of the staircase leading to Leo’s house. Placing a banana on the shrine lights the torches, summons a gorilla, and rewards the player with 3 Golden Walnuts. In addition, 10 bananas are required to purchase the Island Obelisk from the Wizard’s Tower.
