Houses 4 coop-dwelling animals.

Overview

The Coop is a farm building purchasable and upgradeable from Robin at the Carpenter's Shop. It is used to house coop animals, including chickens, ducks, rabbits, and dinosaurs. A newly built Coop has room for 4 animals, a Big Coop increases capacity to 8, and a Deluxe Coop raises it to 12. All three versions occupy a 6×3 footprint.

A Coop takes three days to construct. While it is being built, Robin is unavailable for dialogue or gifting. Upgrading a Coop takes two days, but the building remains usable during the upgrade, and Robin can still be found inside it for dialogue or gifting. If the Meadowlands Farm map is chosen, a Coop starts built on the farm.

The Coop and its upgrades add useful features as they improve:

  • Coop: Hay Hopper, Feeding Bench
  • Big Coop: Hay Hopper, Feeding Bench, Incubator
  • Deluxe Coop: Hay Hopper, Feeding Bench, Incubator, Autofeed System

The Hay Hopper and Feeding Bench help with feeding, while the Incubator allows hatching eggs in upgraded coops. The Deluxe Coop’s Autofeed System automatically distributes hay from silos to the animals. Animals can still eat grass outside, and hay will not be consumed when they do.

Once an animal has been unlocked by building the type of coop needed to house it, that animal can be placed in any other non-upgraded coops the player owns as well. This makes it possible to spread animals across multiple buildings without needing a separate upgrade for each one.

Coop animals can sometimes get stuck outside at night if the coop doors are closed. When this happens, they will be grumpy the next day and are also vulnerable to Wild Animal Attacks. The exact conditions that cause this are not clearly defined, so it is best to leave doors open if animals are likely to return late.

The Coop can also be used as storage in a way similar to a Shed. Chests, Artisan Equipment, Furniture, and other objects can be placed inside without disturbing the animals, even if paths are blocked. However, placing too many objects may stop coop animal products from spawning normally.
